Inland rail a trifecta for Toowoomba region: mayor
An alliance of councils lobbying for an inland rail link is asking councils on the New South Wales north coast to join the fight.
The Melbourne to Brisbane Inland Rail Alliance wants the Federal Government to make a firm commitment to funding construction of the line that would travel through Parkes in the state's central west.
The chairman and Gilgandra Mayor, Warwick Moppett, says a scoping study announced recently by the Government is welcome, but 2019 is too late for completion.
He is asking north coast councils to support the push for a national rail network.
"The money is there, the federal budget has the surplus, what has not been given to the community, and we hope to see it at the federal election, is an absolute commitment to build it, not if and when the scoping study finishes, an absolute commitment that says we have the money, we will build it and we will build it well before 2019," he said.
