The investigation into the fire that engulfed a BNSF rail bridge near Kiowa, Kan., over the weekend was still active on Feb. 24.

BNSF says it is going to determine if the bridge is worth salvaging or if a new bridge will be constructed. The Class 1 railroad company has a steel bridge parallel to the timber bridge, so operations have not been disturbed while crews determine the extend of the damage as well as the cause of the fire.

Fire attacked the bridge on Feb. 22 and it took fire crews just over an hour to extinguish the blaze. No one was hurt.
