Last month Liverpool Council published a video on Facebook which featured Cr Nathan Hagarty who slammed the new train timetable after the NSW Government’s plans were published. It got 36,000 views and 761 comments. Many residents expressed their anger over the timetable which makes trips longer.
Mr Hagarty said the government was promoting an express service in peak hour, but it’s still a 54-minute commute. “It takes the same time but it’s via Bankstown instead of Granville. We need an express service from Liverpool to the city. Every minute you spend on the train is time away from your loved ones.”
Liverpool MP Paul Lynch agreed. “The Government’s timetable is outrageous. It short-changes Liverpool. The Government can find the money to build a tunnel under Sydney harbour but can’t be bothered to provide adequate train services to Liverpool,” he said.
And Liverpool Council said the draft Greater Sydney Region Plan and Transport for NSW’s Future Transport 2056 repeat past mistakes.
“Liverpool is missing out again,” said chief executive Kiersten Fishburn. “We’re particularly disappointed the Leppington Spur to the new airport is listed as being ‘for investigation’ over the next decade while the Metro extension from Bankstown to Liverpool is listed in the 20-plus years’ timeframe. People can’t be made to wait decades for the infrastructure they need now.”
