Cuba is moving forward with a newly upgraded rail system. After four decades, 14 new passenger cars took a long 15-hour journey from Havana to Guantanamo stopping in nine cities.
The new train equipment is Chinese and part of a shipment of 80. Cuba has also made a deal with Russia for railway modernisation in the process. This modernisation is integral to increasing train commuter numbers and restoring one of the first national rail services for a 2030 plan.
Cuba is the only Caribbean country to offer island-wide rails service.
