Czech rolling stock manufacturer CZ Loko has developed the HybridShunter 400 locomotive. It is the first hybrid vehicle in the company’s portfolio. The locomotive is able to operate on a diesel engine and batteries.
The two-axle HybridShunter 400 locomotive was developed for shunting operations. It is equipped with the CAT C4.4 internal combustion engine with a power of 444 kilowatts and traction batteries. “The use of hybrid hauling is based on current trends, whereby clean types of renewable energy are preferred over fossil fuels. The used technology is environmentally friendly and also minimises noise. These advantages will be fully reflected in the shift in urban agglomerations, industrial halls and other similar operations”, said Jan Kutálek, commercial director of CZ Loko.
The vehicle is demonstrated at the Czech Raildays exhibition that is taking place in Ostrava, Czechia this week. Afterwards, the locomotive will be tested in order to receive approval for mass production. CZ Loko plans to develop hybrid technology in the future. “We are also planning to use this technology to manufacture a more powerful four-axle hybrid locomotive”, noted Kutálek.
EffiShunter 1000 locomotive
CZ Loko is also presenting the EffiShunter 1000 diesel locomotive. Several companies in Italy and Slovenia use these vehicles. The presented locomotive was ordered by ČD Cargo, a freight subsidiary of České dráhy. Totally, the company acquired five units of this type with an option for five additional units. The EffiShunter 1000 locomotive has the CAT C32 diesel engine with a power of 895 kilowatts. The vehicle is equipped with online monitoring and diagnostics, ETCS security system and other solutions.
