DB Regio selected for Rhein-Neckar operating contract
The scheme, which allows travellers to use their Lufthansa boarding pass to travel via DB’s Lufthansa Express Rail service to and from Frankfurt Airport, was previously only available from Aachen, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Erfurt, Freiburg, Göttingen, Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe, Karlsruhe, Cologne, Mannheim, Nuremburg, Stuttgart, Würzburg and Ulm.
Express services from Hannover and Leipzig are now available to Lufthansa passengers four times a day, and three times daily from Basle. DB and Lufthansa have also announced plans to double the number of selected locations in the coming years.
The Train to Flight scheme is intended to provide a more integrated, comfortable and environmentally-friendly service for international travellers, with DB powering all long-distance services using renewable energy.
“We are continuously expanding our long-distance services for Germany’s major cities – with new trains, more seats and additional connections,” says Mr Berthold Huber, DB board member for passenger transport. “This connection to Germany’s largest airport from all metropolitan regions allows air travellers to benefit as much as possible and protects the climate.”
