Rocky Condello, Director, Australian Operations for the US based locomotive manufacturer and supplier, National Railway Equipment Company (NRE), is pleased to announce that he has commenced delivery of seven N-ViroMotive locomotives to Australian rail operator Pacific National, an operating division of Asciano Limited, for operation in the BlueScope Port Kembla Steelworks.
The first and second locomotives in this tranche, PB1 and PB2 have been delivered on time into Australia, following an order placed in July 2013, with the remaining five units to be delivered over coming months.
The units, based on the proven NRE Gen Set Technology and powered by the Cummins QSK19 Engine, have been specifically designed and optimized for the Port Kembla operation, with a strong focus on increased safety, visibility, comfort and efficiency while substantially reducing the carbon footprint, noise and emissions in rail operations.
The team based approach undertaken by the PN and NRE teams during the design and manufacturing phases of the project have produced a locomotive with excellent visibility and ergonomic qualities - the result of a strong focus on meeting the challenges of operations in an industrial steel making environment.
In keeping with NRE’s strategic direction for a world based, flexible, environmentally friendly design, NRE has delivered to Pacific National a locomotive that meets stringent local conditions and specific operational requirements for the Port Kembla Steelworks. These locomotives share the same gen sets, control system and other critical key components with the NRE Australian “Regional Rail Strategy” based 1200 Class locomotives supplied into Australia in May 2013.
This delivery expands NRE’s introduction of new technology N-ViroMotive locomotives to the Australian Rail industry and, in addition to the 1200 Class Multi Engine Locomotives introduced into Australia in 2013, provides operationally efficient, reduced fuel use, flexible, quiet technology to traditional locomotive operations.
This tranche of locomotives will bring the number of NRE Locomotives in Australia to 17, with additional units nearing completion for expected delivery into Australia during the remainder of 2014.
NRE provides Locomotives and a full range of parts and maintenance services to the Australian Rail industry.
