Under the plan, eight kilometres of single track between Dandenong and Cranbourne would be duplicated to address the "bottleneck" on the line, Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan said.
She said it was the longest single section of track on Melbourne's metropolitan train network.
"The problem is with the single track it causes congestion, it causes delays, it means you can't run more services," Ms Allan said.
"If one train is delayed even for one minute the whole network, the whole system, finishes up disrupted," Premier Daniel Andrews said.
It is interesting and highly amusing that Jacinta Allan can recognise a 'bottle neck' and congestion on the Maryborough - Ballarat line, the Greensborough to Hurstbridge line $500 million and the Dandenong to Cranbourne line $750 million. However, Jacinta Allan is at considerable pains and the capacity to recognise the 'bottle neck' and congestion on the Bendigio to Kyneton, which was caused by Steve Bracks Labor Government penny pinching to reduce the line between Bendigo and Kyneton to a single track with passing loops.
Given the amount of dumped rubbish along the Bendigo to Melbourne line, it suggests that Jacinta Allan rarely travels by train from Bendigo to Melbourne, because if she did the rubbish would have been removed long ago.
It would appear that it would be beneath Jacinta Allan to travel on the Bendigo to Melbourne line and experience the inconvenience and the ignonimy of sitting in a stationary V/locity in a passing loop waiting for another train to pass that is running 15 minutes late.
Jacinta Allan can exhibit great and magnanimous budgetary inducements and generosity to the people of Melbourne, but as for the people in her own electorate they have to endure neglect, lack of priority and a continuing 'bottle neck' and congestion to put it mildly in the words of Jacinta Allan.
