Public transport fares in Victoria will be frozen until the end of next year.
Fares normally increase in line with the consumer price index.
The State Government says that with inflation at record lows a rise is is not warranted.
The Transport Minister, Lynne Kosky, says increasing ticket prices would be impractical because inflation is at very low levels.
"It is a very small amount ... Treasury estimates are around 0.8%," she said.
"It means adding onto a 2-hourly ticket around 2 to 3 cents, which is very difficult to do."
