Victoria, 3-10 to 8-10-2004
We have had a total of 121 sightings for this week making a total of 702 sightings for the year to date. Well all good things have to come to an end, and they did at 0617 on Friday. That's when we had the last Melb - Geelong B/G train diverted via Gheringhap & Ballarat, it was 9441 with N+T+T.
We had 49 B/G trains for the week with the biggest lash up being on 9122 early Saturday morning with N4XX+N4XX+G524?+Xxx+T364(VR)+T395(SRV)+GM36(CR)
and 52 hoppers.
Mondays 9230 was unusual as in having a H class leading through Gheringhap,
On S/G we only saw 11 DL's for the week with nine of them being on the Patrick's trains. But we did see 9 AN sightings. We saw a couple of unusual events on the Patrick's trains this week with Tuesday's AM3 including some empty 5 pack wagons. And Thursday & Saturday's trains including AN3 instead of the usual DL. EL55 again was lead loco on the three down 9791 trains. The up Overland was in trouble aging on Friday, limping into No2 road at 2040 with a failed NR83, it waited at the up end of the S/G loop to wait for MA5 to turn up and to swap locos with it. This operation was made more difficult due to MA5 being stopped at the top of a 1 in 47 gradient which meant lots of wagon hand brakes had to be applied before they could take the locos off MA5. NR83 was taken off AM8 and placed on MA5, then NR82 was taken off MA5 and placed on AM8. This move took about an hour and when the Overland was ready to head for Melbourne ARTC wasn't and they had to sit around for the down SCT before they could depart at 2240 with an ETA in Melbourne of 0015. Heard Overland staff on the scanner enquiring how passengers were to get home from Melbourne after missing their last train connections? The red GHAN NR109 was well travelled this week as it departed Adelaide for Darwin on Sunday on the first GHAN to Darwin (did it go all the way?) and it was back through Gheringhap at 0824 on Saturday morning heading for Melbourne on AB6. And back again heading West on MA5 at 1958 on Saturday night, and probably on the GHAN again on Sunday?
Regards, Graham Elliott.
