Comments on the opinion page about Gisborne rail not being viable.
I have to disagree. You see, without rail historically Gisborne would be a ghost town — and that is the risk now.
Many others agree with me and are in favour of having trains running again on the Gisborne railway, not rail bikes.
It’s a waste of time waiting on the Government because pleas to them fall on deaf ears.
Instead of running the Wa165 out to Muriwai (there’s nothing out there), we have got to fix the line between Gisborne, Wairoa and Napier.
Wa165 can run to Napier and back no problems, and reasonably priced you would fill it. Wa165 is in its prime.
Gisborne’s logging port wouldn’t lose out either.
Reinstating rail is how you bring economic growth back into this town.
