The Hampton & Kempton Waterworks Railway has confirmed that their Andrew Barclay built 0-4-0 ST (Saddle Tank) steam locomotive “Darent” is nearing the end of an overhaul.
Volunteers in the Workshop at the Hampton & Kempton Waterworks Railway in Middlesex, have been busy working overhauling Darent so the engine can return to hauling passenger trains along the line.
Although it is taking longer than first anticipated due to some age-related issues, the team are now at an advanced stage in the overhaul of the steam locomotive.
Sadly Darent’s return to traffic is put on hold with the current lockdown. The coronavirus pandemic has meant the railway had to close.
Both the Hampton & Kempton Waterworks Railway and Kempton Steam Museum are closed until further notice to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
The railway has no income from running trains but many bills still to pay. So the railway needs your help to increase its chance of survival.
