The Haramain Railway high-speed line in Saudi Arabia will resume its service from Madina to New King Abdul Aziz Airport in Jeddah.
A fire broke out at Sulaymaniyah station in Jeddah two and a half months ago, halting the service. The station was out of operation after the fire.
Last year, the country launched the $7.87bn Haramain Railway to connect the holy cities of Mecca and Medina with Jeddah and King Abdullah Economic City.
Haramain Railway expects that the Mecca to Madinah route via King Abdullah Economic City and Jeddah will be operational from next week.
The Haramain Railway line spans 450km and has the capacity to transport 60 million passengers annually. The journey from Mecca to Madina can be covered in around two hours.
The station linked to the airport spans over an area of 99,000m2 and has the capacity to handle over 3,000 passengers each hour.
Saudi Arabian newspaper, the Saudi Gazette, said that the route between Jeddah and Madinah will have five trips per day in each direction per day.
Trains will travel at a speed of 300kmph, with journey time expected to be 90mins.
The station features ticket vending machines, electronic gates and flight schedule screens. Encompassing six floors, the station also includes a waiting lounge for first-class passengers and commercial areas.
The station has a capacity fo up to six trains and the platforms can accommodate trains measuring around 519m in length.
In July this year, Saudi Railway Company (SAR) entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Chinese tech firm Huawei to initiate a smart railway programme.
