The cane crushing season commenced at 2pm yesterday and and local rail operations have commenced from farms to sugar mills around the far north.
Far Northern Police encourage all motorists to be aware of their surroundings when travelling on or near rail crossings and to stay alert.
Have you seen a cane train yet?
The cane crushing season will continue up until late November so all road users are urged to pay attention around rail crossings in suburban streets and on highways 24/7 during crushing season.
Parents are urged to discuss rail safety with children and remind them they are no go zones, especially during the upcoming school holidays.
