The government of Haryana might hire the services of Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) for the extension of metro line between Faridabad and Gurugram. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar presided the high-level meeting in which this decision was contemplated.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was earlier being expected to operate the rapid metro rail services. But now, HMRTC might oust it if the government goes ahead with this plan.
According to sources, the interchange station for this route will be Sikander Pur metro station. It acts as one of the central stations between Delhi and Gurugram. The metro link will cover a distance of approximately 30 kilometres between the two cities. Once operative, this metro link can increase connectivity to the people living in the interiors of Gurugram. Year 2021 has been set as the completion deadline for this project by the authorities.
This project’s estimate cost is around Rs.5,900 crores. For millions of passengers, it will not only provide the passengers a quicker travel, but also ensure their safety. Due to limited public transportation facility available, most of the passengers are dependent on unregistered cabs that run between Faridabad and Gurugram. Even though these cabs do not ensure supreme safety, commuters have to depend on them, despite the dangers involved.
The Haryana government wishes to connect old parts of Gurugram with Gurgaon Rapid Metro Rail. For this purpose, it has engaged a consultant to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) that will explore the feasibility of this project. Moreover, there are plans to seek the metro route through Dundahera, Sector-23 and then extend towards Dwarka. The agency has analysed a substitute route by extending HUDA City Centre which will pass through Subhash Chowk. However, due to various obstacles, this route has not proved to be of use.
