The Institute of Metro and Rail Technology (IMRT) has entered into an agreement with Nigeria based Major Academy Limited to develop curriculum for the National Diploma in Railway Training (NDRT) for Nigerian Railway.
IMRT shall provide training in railway engineering and technology to Nigerian Trainers who are already qualified as civil, electrical or mechanical Engineers. These Engineers will then train local students in various Polytechnics colleges of Nigeria.
The agreement envisages training of about 50 Nigerian Trainers to support the emerging railway industry in Nigeria. The training programme is of 10 weeks duration with both classroom interactions and field visits.
The training programm will cover various topics viz: Railway track technology, Bridges, Tunnels, Railway operations & infrastructure management, Railway traction, Signalling & communications, Railway economics and planning, High speed railway, modern railway technology etc.
According to the information shared by Sunil Srivastava, Managing Director of Balaji Railroad Systems Pvt. Ltd. and one of the Founder member of the IMRT, the Training for the first batch of trainees commenced on 5th August 2019 at IMRT Campus, Hyderabad.
IMRT is the first-of-its-kind initiative in India to offer specialised training and education for engineering graduates as well as experienced professionals in the metro and rail space including high speed railway.
Major Academy Limited was founded in the year 2000 by Dr. Bashir Isyaku, a Chartered Accountant and former Director of Finance, Federal Character Commission Headquarters Abuja. The academy is fully recognized and registered by the National Council on Management of Nigeria.
The Institute of Metro & Rail Technology (IMRT) is promoted by Balaji Railroad Systems Limited (BARSYL), a consulting firm specializing in providing niche technical and management support to the railways of several countries. The Institute runs various post-graduate long term and short-term diploma courses for the railway professionals and graduate engineers.
