DB Regio selected for Rhein-Neckar operating contract
Abruzzo regional train operator Trasporto Unico Abruzzese has awarded Alstom contracts totalling €33m for the supply of three Coradia Stream electric multiple-units and the installation of ETCS Level 2 and GSM-R.
The first of the EMUs is scheduled for delivery from Alstom’s Savigliano site in February 2023. The 160 km/h EMUs will be 84 m long with 305 seats and space for 229 standing passengers. They will have cycle racks, a passenger information system, wi-fi, passenger counting equipment, areas for passengers with disabilities, CCTV and air-conditioning which adjusts to the number of passengers on board.
ERTMS deployment on the Lanciano – San Vito and Fossacesia-Torino di Sangro – Archi lines is to be completed within 18 months.
Announcing the contracts on February 11, TUA President Gianfranco Giuliante said the region was being ‘far-sighted’ with its investment in new rolling stock and technology to support local transport.
