A MAJOR Toowoomba rail business has welcomed news that the third Queensland stage of the $10.9 billion Melbourne to Brisbane Inland Rail Project has been declared a coordinated project.

A last-minute attempt to change the route of the $10 billion inland rail project to pass next to the new $200 million Brisbane West Wellcamp airport at Toowoomba has been attacked by two of Australia’s key transport industry players.

The Federal Government has committed to building a $10 billion inland rail line that will transport freight between Melbourne and Brisbane.

It's going to cost taxpayers at least $10 billion and isn't predicted to turn a profit for about 50 years, but proponents say Australia is in desperate need of an inland railway to ease the number of trucks on our roads and create a more efficient freight system for the next 100 years.
