The South Coast Labour Council says today's rail free day on the CityRail network is only part of a campaign to fix the problems on the trains.
The NSW Government has bowed to public pressure over the state of the rail system and has allowed free travel on the network.
Council secretary Arthur Rorris says the battle for a better rail system is still far from won.
"We're under no illusion...that the hard yards are yet to come and we hope the Premier stays involved to resolve the outstanding matters which may fix some of the deep-seated problems in the rail system," he said.
