A 69-year-old man struck by a train in Melbourne last night has died in hospital.
The man was found semi-conscious lying beside the railway track near a pedestrian crossing in Chadstone about 8pm (AEDT) by a passer-by who called an ambulance.
Police believe he was crossing the Collins Street pedestrian crossing in Chadstone, in Melbourne's southeast, about 200 metres east of the Holmesglen railway station.
He was taken to The Alfred hospital with injuries believed to be serious but not life-threatening.
However, police today said the man, from Ashwood, died in hospital this morning.
A report was to be prepared for the Coroner.
