An unidentified man allegedly committed suicide by setting himself ablaze using kerosene on rail tracks in north-west Delhi’s Shakurbasti railway station late on Saturday evening.
The Delhi Police have started inquest proceedings in the case. The post-mortem will be conducted on Monday. According to the police, a man with a turban and kirpan was seen afire on Saturday evening on the rail tracks. The police have recovered an empty bottle of kerosene from the spot.
However, it is yet to be determined whether it is a case of self-immolation. The body was completely charred. Police officers said the person who informed them about the incident claimed he only saw the man afire and thus the exact sequence of events is yet to be established.
“We received a call informing us about the incident. A police team reached the location but the body was completely burnt by then. We have initiated inquest proceedings and have taken up investigation,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West) Aslam Khan.
