GLADSTONE Region Mayor Gail Sellers is encouraging local charities and not-for-profit organisations to make the most of available community funding grants.
Councillor Sellers said there were many funding grants available to charity groups and organisations each year and it was important they did not ignore these financial opportunities.
"The money is out there and Gladstone Region groups and organisations should be taking the opportunity to try to access these available funds," Cr Sellers said.
"These grants can assist greatly with covering operational costs, purchasing vital resources or funding projects."
The Mayor's message coincides with the opening of the first round of Aurizon's Community Giving Fund for 2014.
Aurizon's Community Giving Fund is a biannual grants program providing cash grants to worthy charities and non-profit organisations across Australia in the key areas of operation.
The funding program focuses on supporting projects in the areas of health and wellbeing, community safety, environment and education.
Applications can be submitted online at www.aurizon.com.au/communitybefore 5pm on April 14, 2014.
