The Moree CBD is about to become a whole lot busier with Trans4m Rail finding a home for its office premises on Balo Street.
Trans4m Rail have leased three existing premises on Balo Street (the former Moree Pharmacy and M&G Travel sites) to provide nearly 900 square metres for its office operations.
With Trans4m Rail appointed head contractor for the Narrabri to North Star section of the Inland Rail, the premises are expected to be occupied by the Trans4m Rail team for at least three years.
With years of drought prompting plenty of empty shopfronts in the Moree CBD, such a substantial tenancy is a very welcome change, according to mayor Katrina Humphries who said she was pleased to see early benefits flow from the Inland Rail project.
"This is only early days and already this is a great win for the Moree Plains," Cr Humphries said.
"In the New Year, I cannot wait to see our CBD bustling with activity as the office renovation is undertaken.
"And, with over 100 workers to be based in these offices, I am really excited at the prospect of plenty of foot traffic in Moree.
"These are really exciting times for Moree!
"Bring on 2021 and the prosperity and opportunities this project will bring for the black soil plains."
To avoid customer parking in the Moree CBD being inundated, 28 Balo Street (a vacant block of land next to the Moree Memorial Hall) has been secured for staff parking for the Trans4m Rail team.
The Development Application for the half million dollar renovation of the premises has been lodged with council, with the assessment process anticipated to be completed early in the New Year.
