New York rail operator bolsters security after London bombing
The operator of a New York City subway train in Manhattan was killed this morning as a result of a fire that broke out in one of the train cars, according to the New York Times. The fire broke out at 110th Street Central Park North station. Seventeen people were injured. Two other fires were set in the subway early this morning, one at 86th Street station and the other at 96th Street station, and officials suspect that those two fires may be related to the 110th Street Central Park North Station.
The operator of the train, Garrett Goble, apparently died from smoke inhalation, and first responders found him lying on the tracks when they arrived on the scene.
Sarah Feinberg, interim president of New York City Transit said “We are devastated by this, and it is a hard moment for New York City Transit.”
