As part of the Melbourne to Brisbane Inland railway project, the operation of double stack container (and other over height wagons) south of Goobang Junction (Parkes) to at least Donnybrook on Melbourne's Northern suburban fringe.
This project will see the need for the North East Standard Gauge lines to be lowered under existing road overpasses, such as the M31 Hume Freeway.
There are towns where It Is not possible to lower the railway without opening a can of worms when It comes to other Infrastructure and natural drainage.
Places could Include
Wangaratta
Benalla
Euroa
Where the East line could be diverted through the old BG yard area at each station and the 1960's era SG bypass track removed (stations could than revitalize their station forecourts that were cut off during the late 50's)
It's been mooted that the Murray River bridge at Albury will be bypassed, due to the 7 low overhead Iron hoops that are part of the bridge structure.
Overhead signal gantries, will probably need to be removed or raised.
