The V Class 928 ‘Stowe’ Facebook Page has posted an update on the recent work towards overhauling Maunsell Locomotive Society owned Southern Railway V ‘Schools Class No.928 “Stowe” at the Bluebell Railway.
Although the Sheffield Park Locomotive Workshop is closed, members of the team have progressed with work off-site during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Following all components being re-bushed, the brake gearing has been refitted to the rolling chassis.
The steam heating system has been fitted with all new steel piping. The next task will be to assess and repair where required copper pipework of large diameter.
With the cab roof being re-skinned, the team fixed the cab roof back onto the cab side sheets. A new water gauge glass has been purchased for 928. Cast and machined, “Stowe” now also has a brand new steam turret valve.
Cladding sections have started to cleaned and painted by volunteers. All three valve heads have been separated from their valve rods to allow repairs to continue.
