It has been reported that Pacific National is storing grain wagons at Murtoa to have them cut up to stop their competitors using them. These are grain wagons that the Victorian tax payer has paid for the construction and servicing of them until that enormous and generous genius, Jeff Kennett bequeathed them to the private operators on our behalf.
If this report is factual, Pacific National will gain the reputation of the Monsanto of rail transport in Australia. These same wagons used to have V/line Freight emblazoned on them and were a reassuring sight around Victoria, rather that the run down neglected wagons they are in a private operators hands. There has also been a report that there is a shortage of locomotives and grain wagons to shift the grain - obviously the private operators have been heavily investing in rolling stock infrastructure!!! No wonder our roads are in the dilapidated state from 40,000 truck movements shifting the grain!!

The Loddon Mallee Strategic Plan identifies rail freight as a priority, it is a shame Pacific National doesn't follow the plan or exhibit the same level of vision and commitment.
