Police are hunting a couple over a vicious assault at a Sydney train station that has left a man fighting for his life in hospital.
The 36-year-old victim was attacked at Clyde station near Parramatta in Sydney’s west just after 6pm on Saturday, December 1.
Police said the incident unfolded when a woman approached two men, aged 32 and 36, on a platform at Clyde station and slapped the younger man in the face.
As he attempted to grab the woman’s hand to stop the assault, another man approached and
punched him, knocking him down, police said in a statement.
That man then punched the 36-year-old man to the ground, knocking him unconscious.

The couple was last seen last seen running from the station west along William Street, Granville.
Police today released CCTV images of the pair in the hope someone will identify them.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated both men for head injuries before they were taken to Westmead Hospital.
The 36-year-old man remains in a critical condition in hospital and is expected to remain there for several days while he undergoes treatment. The younger man has been released.

The incident is under investigation by officers from Cumberland Police Area Command, who have canvassed the area and spoken to a number of witnesses.
The man sought by police is described as being caucasian in appearance with a beard and aged in his mid to late 20s.
The woman is described as being of caucasian appearance, with long brown hair and aged in her mid to late 20s.
