Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) has opened the first section of Doha Metro’s Red Line between Al Qassar in the north and Al Wakrah in the south.
The initial service, which commenced a year ahead of schedule, includes 13 out of 18 stations on the Red Line.
Currently, train services will run on weekdays every six minutes. Travel time between the two stations is three minutes.
The service will remain suspended on weekends to complete the pending work to open more stations and lines.
The preview service will enable Qatar Rail to assess and review performance before launching the full metro network.
“Doha Metro is considered one of the most important pillars of Qatar’s new integrated transport system.”
Qatar Rail strategies and business development chief Ajlan Eid Al Enazi said: “Doha Metro is considered one of the most important pillars of Qatar’s new integrated transport system.
“We invite everyone to experience the metro during this phase and to share with us their experience so that we can review the key factors that may affect our services in the future.
“We will develop solutions to address those factors to enhance the experience of passengers.”
All the Doha Metro Red Line stations are air-conditioned and designed in accordance with local heritage.
They feature a customer service centre, Gold Club office, a police booth, separate male and female prayer areas and restrooms.
The stations are also equipped with electronic monitors to provide train service details, security cameras and a first aid room.
Qatar Rail introduced a mobile application for metro services that allows passengers to create an account and link their travel cards.
The app can be used to manage trips, as well as view the metro network and current operational stations.
