Victoria, 3-10 to 8-10-2004
As the westbound was still rolling through, an eastbound intermodal came charging in, with a 1x1x0 (one head end, one mid train DPU) power configuration.
As the mid-train DPU rolled by a westbound manifest flew by on the other main.
With two trains on the main and another train rolling out from the intermodal yard, that made a THREE TRAIN MEET!
As all three trains moved on, I grabbed a shot of an airplane overhead.
The westbound signal changed to green, and a westbound empty tanker train rolled through.
Pulling the train was a single CSX YN2 unit, which are becoming increasingly rare.
The buffer cars were a nice light blue, a contrast from the black oil cars.
We headed over to Kirkville, NY, and I shot a stationary intermodal out the back window.
After waiting around for a while, a second intermodal train came up and rolled towards the signals, and then stopped. The westbound signal turned green, and before I knew what was happening a westbound empty grain/oil train came flying by at track speed, lead by a pair of BNSF locomotives.
There were several BN hoppers on the train, and one CB&Q hopper, but I wasn’t quick enough to capture it.
Mid train, two NS and one CSX locomotive split the train from grain to oil.
Light was fading fast and an oncoming rainstorm indicated it was time to wrap things up in Syracuse. On the way back to Dewitt Yard I snapped some pictures of the two intermodals.
Back at Dewitt Yard, the only action happening was a pair of locomotives assembling a westbound intermodal.
As we headed north, I snapped one last picture of the yard.
Look for a pair of Trackside Treks featuring Syracuse soon. –Harrison
