The 137-acre site, located in Hempstead and Waller County, Texas, is currently under development and projected to open in June. It plans to serve “national- and international-grade manifest and transload firms desiring to locate in the Northwest quadrant of Houston with rail service from Union Pacific rail.”
The first commercial rail cars ran through Hempstead on the present-day Union Pacific rail line, which borders the west side of the park, in 1858.
“There are no public parks on the west side of Houston, for most of Houston’s rail business tends to be focused on the east side of the city,” said RCR Rail Co. founder Hydie McAlister. “More than 5 million people live within 100 miles of this terminal, and the RCR Hempstead Logistics Park will spur business development, divert thousands of trucks routes and provide much-needed employment in this fast-growing region. We want it to compliment Houston, Waller County and Hempstead, therefore the park will be industrial grade, which is extremely important since the park is being built at the entrance of Hempstead.”
