Greater Anglia has announced that punctuality across their area of operation is the highest since records started.

In the 12 months between March 2020 and March 2021 (ending on Saturday 6th of March), the overall punctuality figure for all passenger train services, mostly in the East Anglian area, was that 95% of trains meet the timetabled times.

For seven particular routes, they all achieved the highest figures ever, these being:

• Ipswich to Felixstowe line at 95.5%
• Norwich to Cambridge line at 95.7%
• Norwich to Lowestoft at 96.1%
• Marks Tey to Sudbury lines at 96.8%
• Norwich to Sheringham at 96.8%
• Norwich to Great Yarmouth at 96.9%
• Cambridge to London Liverpool Street at over 94%
• Harwich to London route at over 94% (Going via Clacton, Colchester, Braintree, Chelmsford, Southminster and Southend)
• Norwich to London route at 93.4% (Intercity service going via Ipswich and Colchester)

These record numbers have been driven partly through infrastructure improvements and upgrades thanks to Network Rail at Greater Anglia working hard as a company and focusing on the areas which can be improved.

Greater Anglia has worked hard over the past 12 months to make sure trains are on time as well as being clean and safe for passengers and key workers to use.

Greater Anglia managing director Jamie Burles said: “I know how important it is to our customers that our trains run on time, which is why I started a concerted punctuality drive jointly with Network Rail in 2018, focusing on all areas to improve the reliability and punctuality of our service.

“This has continued throughout the pandemic and we’ve seen record-breaking punctuality, building on strong performance in 2019.

“Latest figures show that just under 95 per cent of our trains have run on time in the last 12 months and we will be working hard to continue these good results as people come back to the railway when travel restrictions ease.”
