Rangpo (Sikkim), Oct 30 (PTI) Thirty four years after attaining statehood, Sikkim can finally look forward to get linked to the railway network with the foundation for the Rangpo-Sevoke line laid today.
The foundation for the line, estimated to be built at Rs 1,400 crore, was laid by Vice-President Hamid Ansari with Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee promising to complete it on schedule.
"The proposed 52.7-km rail link will give impetus to economic development in Sikkim and fulfil the aspirations of the people for a better connectivity, the process of which has started today," Ansari said, adding the link will help quick transport of goods to and fro the Himalayan state.
