A V/line Sprinter Car service caught fire yesterday at Broadmeadows causing significant delays to Metro Trains services on the Northern Line out of Melbourne.
Railpage users have reported Sprinter 7013 started smoking or was on fire during its journey. it is likely the air conditioning system was in someway involved as smoke spread through out the car quickly. Reports suggest the smoke issues escalated and people were contemplating pulling the emergency door release as the conductor was in a different sprinter and it seemed that nothing was being done about the smoke, even after people called 000.
7013 is still meant to be sitting on siding at Broadmeadows awaiting transfer to the shops for maintenance.
