Rare Arnott's biscuit van restored
The Bala Lake Railway has released an update on two of its resident steam locomotives, which are either undergoing or about to undergo a significant overhaul.
Holy War is currently undergoing a major overhaul and has seen her axle boxes refurbished.
Holy War’s boiler is due to be sent away for specialist work to be carried out.
Once her boiler has returned, the job of rebuilding the locomotive can begin as soon as possible.
Sister locomotive to Holy War – Alice, is to undergo her 10-year overhaul soon. While her ticket has not yet expired, the locomotive hauled her last train during November, pulling wagons full of sleepers down the track to allow track relaying to commence.
Her last train was on a damp day and needed a small bit of assistance from Lady Madcap, resident small diesel at the BLR.
Alice is still available, but the overhaul will commence soon. However, a brand new boiler is already waiting for Alice so that the overhaul will take less time than usual.
