Closure of Newcastle rail stations not technically a closure of whole line, State Government lawyer says
Sydney's Liverpool train station has reopened after earlier
being evacuated following the discovery of two suspicious
packages.
Police have removed two suitcases found on the southwest Sydney
station's number one platform, but have not disclosed if any
dangerous substances were found.
The discovery forced the station's closure for about two hours
from 4pm (AEST).
"Liverpool railway station has now been reopened to commuters
and trains will begin operating through that station as normal," a
police spokesman said.
"Police have addressed the issue that was occurring at that
station."
Liverpool is a major southwest Sydney transport hub with the
Inner West, South, Cumberland and Bankstown lines all passing
through the station.
Police later said witnesses at the train station told
investigators they saw a man leave the bags on the platform.
