Closure of Newcastle rail stations not technically a closure of whole line, State Government lawyer says
Police have charged a man after he forced an underground rail line in Sydney to temporarily shut down last night.
The 22-year-old was trying to escape arrest when he jumped onto the railway tracks at Central Station and ran through the tunnel towards Redfern.
Trains were stopped in both directions as police blocked off both ends of the tunnel.
The man was arrested just north of Redfern station and charged with offences including escaping lawful custody.
