Statement from Ixion Model Railways Ltd
Over the weekend I’ve finished cleaning up the basement. I finally got my old train table out to the shed.
My workbench has been moved to the other wall, which gives me plenty of space to build benchwork.
With everything cleaned up and a good sized space available, I headed out to the shed to find some wood. Turns out, the best wood I could find was on my old table, so I took it apart and brought the wood inside.
Before I could formulate a plan for the benchwork, I realized something- the former side pieces of my old table were warped badly.
I’m fairly determined to reuse lumber, especially considering the lumber at the local Lowe’s will be just as warped and way overpriced. After talking to Gideon, we decided on a plan. I’ll rip the two fairly straight 1x8s I have into four 1x4s. These will be used for the long (6 foot) sides.
I’ll use the former sides (1×4’s) to make the end pieces and cross braces, as 18 inches won’t be nearly as bad for warping. Now I just need to figure out legs… If you have any comments, let me know below. -Harrison
