A GRASS fire has halted a section of the North Queensland rail network as it burns next to a busy highway.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services are fighting the Toonpan fire, which was called in to crews about 8.45am Monday.
The fire is burning between the Flinders Highway and the rail line near Gumtree Rd, south of Townsville.
Smoke may affect residents and motorists in the area. Residents should close their doors and windows and keep medication close by if suffering from a respiratory condition. Motorists should use caution and drive to conditions. If you believe your property is under threat, you should call triple-0 (000) immediately.
