ENR awarded Transmashholding-Hungary a €1bn contract in September last year to deliver 1300 coaches over five years. The contract includes 500 third-class coaches, the first 30 of which are due to be delivered by the end of the year subject to successful testing and certification.
The technical plans for the third-class coaches were approved following a meeting with representatives of the Egyptian Ministry of Transport, ENR, the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Egypt and Transmashholding (TMH) on August 14, allowing production to begin.
The coaches are expected to operate for 40 years, and have been designed with corrosion-resistant steel-alloy car bodies, as well as moisture-proof and heat-insulating materials. The doors are equipped with dust and moisture protection, while the temperature of the axleboxes will be monitored using sensors.
The coaches will have 88 seats, and will be equipped with forced ventilation, two toilets and LED lighting, while the bogies are equipped with disc brakes.
