Inland rail a trifecta for Toowoomba region: mayor
The Victorian Minister for Transport, Peter Batchelor, has rejected Opposition claims the regional fast rail project is well over budget and cost blowouts will continue.
The Liberals are accusing the Government of trying to hide a $21 million extra payment for the project in July and August.
Mr Batchelor says the Labor Government is improving rail services, in contrast to the Liberals who planned to close country lines.
He says the fast rail project is on budget.
"We are still operating. We haven't spent more than $600 million odd on the fast rail project. The statements they made are confusing, the payment of amounts out of contingency with the total budget," he said.
