A Mighty Fine Line
Sitting on the train sure beats sitting in traffic! Chicago’s morning rush hour is underway along Tom Klimcsak’s layout, where a WalthersProto® F7 heads up an inbound Rock Island commuter run.
The Shoehorn Central has grown a lot in just six months! Construction started on March 31 of this year on the On30 layout, which was built in a spare bedroom by Steve Schrader.
When simulating brick walls on a structure model, adding mortar joints is a great way to enhance realism. For this in-progress model, Instagram poster @milwaukeeroadhoscale used lightweight drywall joint compound (aka “mud”) for his mortar joints. He simply works a small amount of mud into the joints, then cleans off the excess with a damp fingertip.

One of the most fun things about flatcars is the interesting loads they carry. This depressed center flat car is carrying an assembled Electro-Motive Division 567 diesel engine ready for installation at a railroad shop. Poster @u.p.toastertrains built and painted the prime mover from a Walthers kit.
