A woman's body was found Tuesday afternoon on the train tracks by the Greenville Amtrak station on West Washington Street, according to the Greenville County Coroner's Office.
Deputy Coroner Jeff Fowler said the woman had been struck by a train.
The Greenville County Sheriff's Office responded to a call from train personnel at around 2:40 p.m. and located the body shortly thereafter.
The Coroner's Office was at the scene about an hour and a half later, Fowler said. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a release from the Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office is conducting a death investigation, which is still in its early stages. Investigators are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers of Greenville at 23-CRIME.
