Newly converted back to Standard Gauge after languishing on the BG turn table at Dynon for the past few months, G539 is on its' first run on the skinnier gauge as it leads 7901V into Maryborough on the morning of the 16th of February 2019 accompanied by G520 and X50.
G539 had previously been on SG from the mid-1990's until about early 2013, when Pac Nat put it and several other class members (522, 528, 529, 541, 542 and 543) back on BG to help with the withdrawal of the older A and X Class units.
G520 and G539 were two of the several G Classes done up for hauling SCT services across Australia when Freight Australia got the hook-and-pull contract in the early 2000's, being fitted with in-line fuelling equipment negating the need for the trains to stop and refuel at Cook on the Nullabor Plain.
