One of many jetty railways in the states north, the Carnarvon Tramway ran from the town to the jetty, a distance of 3km. Originally built to 2ft gauge in 1900, it was regauged to 3'6" in 1908. The line ceased to be used in 1965. Several efforts have been made to reopen it as a tourist line, including restoration of the last steam loco to work the line, however the line remains closed.
