Both South Australia and New South Wales saw the classic EMD and ALCo cab units working alongside each other for many years, but comparison shots of them together are not that common.
On 27 June 1999, in what many would have thought would be the twilight of their careers, Australian Southern Railroad's (ASR) GM46 and 961 sit together at the Dry Creek Motive Power Centre in Adelaide.
Remarkably 15 years on, both locos are still extant. GM46 remains in services with ASR's successor, Genesee & Wyoming Australia, while 961 though not having turned a wheel for several years is earmarked for preservation with the ARHS ACT Division in Canberra.
