Fresh from the paint shop at Islington Works on 1 September 1999 are CFCL Australia's first repainted EL, EL57, and Great Northern Rail's GM27 in its Gulf Mobile & Ohio inspired livery.
EL57 was delivered new to federally-owned Australian National in 1991, only to be sold 8 years later to Chicago Freight Car Leasing Australia with whom it remains in service with today.
GM27 was also an ex Australian National loco, but was originally delivered to the Commonwealth Railways in 1964. Withdrawn in 1994, it was refurbished by fledgling private operator Great Northern Rail, but with the failure of that business it ended up being purchased by CFCLA. Initially leased to Southern Shorthaul Railroad (SSR) and painted in SSR colours, it was subsequently purchased by SSR and at the time of writing remains on their roster..
