XP2018 and 6 XPT cars with XP2013 on the tail wait alongside Central Station's Platform 1 for 16:12 to come around and depart towards Brisbane on service NT31.
On the 20th October 2013, new timetables came into action for public transport across NSW. These timetables have had a devastating effect on passengers who use this service to Roma Street station in Brisbane.
Under the new timetable, this service now departs Sydney Central shortly after 2pm and arrives into Brisbane at the inconvenient time of 4am. The return service also leaves Queensland an hour earlier causing a change off the tilt train from Northern Queensland impossible without a 14-hour wait.
The changes to this service have been caused by the Queensland government requesting the XPT to operate in and out of Brisbane without affecting their local peak hour trains. It now appears that the Queensland government wants nothing to do with this service as they no longer sell NSW TrainLink tickets in Queensland.
