Not quite.....initially I thought had taken this on 28 March 1989, several months after trains had stopped running on the now defunct Gladstone to Wilmington 3'6" railway.in South Australia.
At Gladstone Australian National motive power in the form of Sulzer powered NT67/N76, ALCo DL531 no.846 and just visible in the background sits former Commonwealth Railways Sulzer NSU58.
846 was one of two ALCo branchliners that replaced the NTs in the last months of operation in 1988 and on closer inspection has not yet been refitted with its raised exhaust. It reportedly arrived at Gladstone (after several years working in Tasmania) in August 1987 so this dates the image sometime between then and December 1987 when the 830s replaced the NTs. Thanks to Ben for hinting that further research was required.
