Australian National Railways GM-28 is seen at the end of platform 1 at Spencer Street Station, soon after arriving from Sydney with the "Southern Aurora" overnight passenger train. The vehicle behind the loco is the diesel generator power car which provides power to all the carriages.
Various GM locos were on hire to V/Line at this time due to a shortage of standard gauge passenger locomotives.
Upon withdrawal from traffic, GM 28 was preserved as GM 22 at the old Port Pirie station in South Australia with three old ex Commonwealth Railways carriages. The local 'ferals' decided to vandalise the loco and set fire to the carriages.
The loco and fire damaged carriages have since been sold to the Seymour Railway Heritage Centre in Seymour, Victoria and as of today (20/4/2012), await transfer to their new home. 9:09am, Sunday the 8th of January, 1984.
